Abstract

A total number of 38 strains of actinomycetes were isolated from the sediments of the Mallipattinam coast. They were tested for their antagonistic activity against the potential human pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus faecalis, Proteus vulgaris, Salmonella typhi, Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger. Among them, only 3 Streptomycetes sp. showed good activity against the tested pathogens and they were tentatively identified upto species level.
