Abstract

To investigate the chemical constituents of the roots of Mirabilis jalapa. Componds were extracted by petroleum ether and then purified by silica gel column chromatography. Their structures were characterized by NMR. Three chemical compounds  were respectively  b-sitosterol (I), isopropyl(4-(hydroxymethyl)phenyl) carbamate(II), (E)-methyl  2-(3-methoxypropyl)hexadec-14-enoate (III). Conclusion isopropyl (4-(hydroxymethyl) phenyl) carbamate(II)  was  first reported in this plant.
